During our time together, you will hear us speak often about the importance of hydration. It's unfortunate, but hydration often takes a back seat to training and diet for most people. We make sure to bring hydration to the forefront so you are aware on a daily basis of your fluid intake.
Water is without a doubt the obvious choice for hydrating the body. But during these hot summer days, it's nice to know that we can turn to some of the season's best bounty to help us stay hydrated and be a delicious treat to our tastebuds.
Plain water getting a little mundain?
This summer grab some WATERMELON, CANTALOPE, HONEYDEW & CUCUMBER. Have fun serving them together and topping them off with a little fresh lime juice and mint or basil. Around our house, we prep a big bowl on Sunday and enjoy having it at our fingertips throughout the week.
One of my favorite summer salads of all time is cut up chunks of watermelon with a light drizzle of olive oil, red wine vinegar, fresh basil & a bit of feta sprinkled over the top. If you have never tried it, you must. It is absolutely YUMMY!!
Not only are these melons going to help you stay hydrated they are also chocked full of nutrients that will assist in muscle recovery. Hydration & recovery? I'm all in!
CELERYis also a super go-to snack with great water content and is loaded with fiber. Topping it with a small schmear of natural nut butter or hummus is a great snack that will definitely tie you over until meal time. Plus, it is completely and easily portable. Just wash the celery bundle well when you get it home, cut it into sticks and store it in a tall container that has some water in the bottom. This will help keep it fresh and crisp longer.
Nothing says summer like STRAWBERRIES in my opinion. If you are lucky enough to be able to pick your own, by all means do. Otherwise, hit up your local farmers market so you can always have some on hand to snack on or blend in a smoothie. Just make sure you only wash what you are going to eat. Fresh berries will spoil very quickly.
So, remember the importance of hydration while giving your tastebuds the best the season has to offer
